John,
Wanted to thank you guys for such an unique and highly attractive alternative to deer feed. My first priority is to provide quality nutrition to my deer herd, second is attraction and this hits both of them top dead center. My first thoughts was if they like "Peas Plus" would be a nice "mix-in" with the other feeds I have in my program but this might be a great stand alone product. I am no nutritionists but at first glance this is a solid source of protein and other vital minerals and nutrients to the deer and the best thing is they LOVE it. Would like to see more conclusive data on the nutritional values and digestibility of Peas Plus. Also moisture doesn't seem to get to this like other products- bonus!
When I test products I place them in 20 gallon feeding buckets completely exposed and open for all access eating. Within the first 24 hours deer were investigating and eating the peas like a new candy. And so far I haven't had a single raccoon try an get into the bucket to feed so we maybe onto something there!
Anyway, I am extremely pleased so far with the attractiveness and palatability of Peas Plus.
Thanks again and best wishes,
Joe Shannon

John,
Here are a few sample pictures taken in July & August 2010. The velvet can make it a little deceiving, but it looks like we should have a pretty good crop of trophies this year. As usual, they are pretty nocturnal at this point. We loaded the timed spin feeders this last week, so maybe we’ll see them a little more at dusk and dawn. The Black Eye peas are the ticket. Made a believer out of me.
We’re looking forward to reviewing this seasons counts with you.
Thanks,
LDP

I manage a MDL Level 3 permit at a ranch located in Montague County Texas. Weve had mixed success growing big bucks by planting food plots and feeding corn. Our hunters have complained that once the acorns fell, they couldnt find a buck. The deer would drop the corn feeders and spend all there feeding time in the oak trees. John Cox, wildlife biologist, suggested feeding black-eyed peas. He said they are high protein and very palatable for deer, turkey, and quail, plus they are aflatoxin free.
We made the switch to peas November, 2009 and have been very pleased with the results. It took a few weeks for the deer to get used to them, but once they did, we cant feed enough. I have cameras on all my feeders and been seeing very large bucks. Its now Mid August and the bucks are in velvet. The deer have another full month to put on antler mass, cant wait to see how much larger these bucks get. I also am looking forward to seeing the same bucks at my pea feeders throughout the acorn season. Also our quail counts are much better than years past.

(The next morning after putting peas in an empty broadcast feeder). You can see the ground is not worn bare as under a lot of corn feeders. We have had an above average year on rain and the natural browse was very good this year. They were not hitting the feeders as hard in previous years. After adding peas to this feeder the night before, these are the pictures from the next morning. I believe in the peas.
